Celebrating Our 25th Year - |
| |
| Twenty-five years ago, the doors
of Sullivan Station Restaurant opened. How quickly time
has passed and left treasured memories, and lifelong friends.
This has truly been a family business transforming
the town's Railroad Depot into a restaurant, and son Kevin
continues to maintain the building with his craftsman
talents. Son Jimmy returns from Florida each summer season
to lend a hand and help keep us on track. Daughter Marty
waitressed while she was in college, and I am thrilled
as her son Johnny now comes on board as a dishwasher.
We are thankful for our team of dedicated and loyal
staff, who through time have become an extended family.
Among the best treasured memories are our friends
and patrons. To you, most of all, we owe a debt of gratitude
for the support you have given us.
Thank you and most sincerely,
Marilyn

A Trip through history...
Sullivan Station was originally built as a railroad
passenger depot in 1893 by the New York, New Haven and Hartford
Railroad. Prior to this construction, passengers boarded and disembarked
from a tiny wooden building across the tracks. The inconvenience
of having to walk across the tracks to get to the village was
one of the reasons for seeking a new structure.
Lee merchant and contractor Thomas Heaphy convinced
Wellington Smith, a prominent resident and paper mill owner, to
represent the town in meetings with railroad officials in Boston.
When the new depot was approved, the construction contract was
awarded to Heaphy, and the depot became a product of labor of
the local citizens.
The new passenger depot opened on Saturday, November
4, 1893, and the first ticket was proudly purchased by Thomas
Heaphy himself. It remained the Lee Depot until 1971. The structure,
then in the possession of Penn Central Railroad, was used as a
line office.
The real estate was purchased from Penn Central
in 1975 by the present owner. The building was used to operate
two businesses, Barritt Oil Co. and Iron Horse Realty until 1980,
when the family decided to take on the task of painstaking restoration.
Enthusiastically, the depot was transformed into a restaurant.
Sullivan Station Restaurant opened September 11, 1981. We know
you will enjoy this dining experience... |

Exerpts
from an Unsolicited Review...
Choo! Choo! These are the sounds of Sullivan Station.
You might think that it is a train station, and it is. But to
your surprise it is also a unique restaurant.
The atmosphere at Sullivan Station is lively and
intriguing. It is an old-fashioned train station that was turned
into a restaurant. This cozy bar and restaurant is family oriented
and has been serving food since 1981. Luckily, the noise-level
is not blaring loud like some bars and restaurants. It has gentle
music playing which comforts you while you are dining. The pictures
on the walls make you feel like you are back in time actually
waiting for a train. In fact, there is a silver train on the
wall that is so shinny you can see your reflection in it. To
complete the true feeling of the restaurant, there is a real
train which passes by as you enjoy your meal. Certainly, the
second you walk inside this restaurant you are hooked and ready
to eat.
The food at Sullivan Station is bold and luscious.
When the waitress brought out the fluffy bread, I was already
satisfied. The bread was warm, and it felt as if you were biting
into a cloud. It was complemented by rich and creamy butter.
The Caesar Salad was crunchy, leafy and fresh. It was covered
with creamy and tasteful ranch dressing. The fries were golden
and twice the size of normal fries. The Boston Scrod was crisp
on the outside and fresh on the inside;. It felt as if I were
in Boston Harbor. Sullivan Station had a lot of variety of food.
To top it all off, they threw in chocolately bread pudding.
The food at Sullivan Station can make anyone's mouth water.
If you think the food is excellent, wait until
you hear about the service. The service at Sullivan Station
is very friendly, and if you didn't know any better you would
think that you knew them all of your life. The whole restaurant
crew was relaxed and casual. The service at Sullivan Station
is so welcoming, you would think that you were at your own grandmother's
house.
You might think that all the hard work the Sullivan
Station staff spends on the atmosphere, food, and service, that
they would have no time to work on all the little details that
are so small, yet so important. But, they find a way to do it
all! The hostess is at your service immediately. You are at
your table faster then you can say, "Great service."
The parking is no hassle at all. As you can see, dinning at
Sullivan Station is a breeze.
Whether you're eating a meal or waiting for your
train, you will have a great time at Sullivan Station. It has
food, fun, and a whole lot of trains!
